Summer Coaching Opportunities for Professional Teachers

You've worked hard to become the teacher your students deserve. Are you ready to share your practice with someone else who aspires to do the same?

PART-TIME TEACHER COACH

If you are a teacher with two or more years of professional experience who shares our core values and is interested in coaching the next generation of teachers, we invite you to apply to serve as a part-time coach. You will coach four undergraduate and high-school teaching fellows in one content area: engineering,  math, reading, or social studies, and observe their elective classes on Fridays. You will:

  • Observe your four fellows every day

  • Provide individual feedback in growth conferences

  • Lead lesson rehearsals for one department

  • Support five teaching fellows in differentiating lesson plans

  • Lead student work analysis

  • Mentor your teaching fellows as developing professionals

The part-time Teacher Coach role is 5 days/week for 5 (Boston) or 7 (Denver, Providence, Western MA) weeks; the hours are 8:45 a.m. - noon. We provide two days of pre-summer training and ongoing training, support, and development.

DEAN OF EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

If you are a teacher with three or more years of professional experience who shares our core values and is interested in coaching and developing administrative experience, we invite you to apply to serve as a Dean of Experiential Education. You will coach one academic department in the morning (engineering, math, reading, or social studies) and support the design and implementation of elective classes in the afternoon. You will serve as a member of the GT Leadership Team. You will:

  • Observe five fellows in one department every morning and multiple fellows in three elective periods every afternoon

  • Provide individual feedback in growth conferences

  • Lead lesson rehearsals

  • Support teaching fellows in differentiating lesson plans

  • Lead student work analysis

  • Mentor 32 teaching fellows as developing professionals in your academic content area and their elective courses

  • Support program-wide transitions and rituals to build community and culture

The role is 5 days/week for 5 (Boston) or 7 (Denver, Providence, Western MA) weeks for 10 hours/day. We provide two days of pre-summer training and ongoing training, support, and development.

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

When is the application deadline?

The application deadlines are December 4, January 4, February 4, March 4, and April 4.

What are the steps in the selection process?

You will submit an online application with your resume, content preferences, video of your classroom teaching, and name and email address of a supervisor who can complete a brief recommendation form on your behalf. We will invite top candidates to a Google Hangouts interview and will role play a coaching scenario. The entire process will be completed within four weeks. 

What is the ideal applicant profile?

Ideal coaching applicants have at least two years of full-time teaching experience, while deans have at least three years of full-time teaching experience. All candidates must have a passion for the profession and a desire to lead within and beyond the classroom. We encourage coaches to return for multiple summers and to assume additional leadership positions in the future.

Do I need to be certified?

Certification is not required.

 

COACHING EXPERIENCE

How many Teaching Fellows will I coach?

Part-time Teacher Coaches coach 5 Teaching Fellows with common prep periods. Full-time coaches provide academic coaching to 5 fellows and elective support to 32 fellows with support from the leadership team.

What training will I receive?

We provide pre-summer reading and two days of in-person training.

What curricula will I use?

We have customized unit and daily lesson plans for all content areas. We will provide curricula to you in advance, so you can learn it before the summer. 

LOGISTICS

What are my hours?

  • Part-Time Coach: 8:45 a.m. - noon, Monday - Friday

  • Full-Time Coach: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Is this a paid opportunity?

Yes! Payment is differentiated by length of the commitment. Returning Teacher Coaches receive a $100 bonus; Returning Deans receive a $200 bonus.

  • Boston (5 weeks): Part-Time Coaches: $1,500; Full-Time Coaches: $4,500

  • Denver (7 weeks): Part-Time Coaches: $2,100; Full-Time Coaches: $6,300

  • Providence (7 weeks): Part-Time Coaches: $2,100; Full-Time Coaches: $6,300

  • Western MA (7 weeks): Part-Time Coaches: $2,100; Full-Time Coaches: $6,300
